Yeah, Like I Need This Right Now

Today after almost 5 hours of studying, I decided to take a break and go swimming. I asked a "friend" of mine if she would like to go with me.

She said, "No, I'm going to the baptism, as all ward members are supposed to."

To which I replied, ignoring the implied guilt trip, "Ah. Well, I'm going to go swimming and then I'm going to come back home and study for a few more hours."

To which she replied, "Have fun," with the subtext of "You bad person, you."

I'm sorry, was that you trying to lay a guilt trip on me?!?!

OK, A) where I grew up not EVERYone goes to EVERY baptism. I'm not friends with the person getting baptized. B) That said, if I wasn't studying for THE BAR I would probably go to the baptism anyway to be supportive and all that.

But I am studying. In fact, I canceled a brunch with some friends this morning because I knew I just couldn't take the time.

PS Despite what the website said, the pool was closed when I went. Sadness. So I just came back home and studied. It's probably a judgment on me for my evil, apathetic ways.

Feh.

To offer a little charity to your "friend," maybe she's feeling guilty for not exercising?

And bah too on the pool being closed. It should be illegal for websites to get hours wrong with the penalty being them having to pay you $100 for the inconvenience.

I wouldn't worry about it. I go to baptisms even if I didn't know the person occasionally, but for the most part just introduce myself sometime in the first few weeks. You've got a lot going on, there's really no way you're even balancing everything else you have on your plate what with the bar.

Yeah, *love* it when my friends try to guilt me about stuff. I usually call them out on it. Most obnoxious line: "pack your bags, we're on a guilt trip!"

Sometimes I also bring up the fact that I have an Indian mother, so they are going to have to get up pretty early in the morning to even *TRY* and compete with that kind of guilt.

Yeah, note that I put "friend" in quotation marks. This person is someone I have to deal with on a regular basis, but I wouldn't really call her a friend, not a real friend anyway.
