Interview!

I just got an interview with a firm in DC. It's not an exact match since they do health care financing not strictly health care law. But that's ok, right? At the firm I worked at here, I became the closings woman for the last year I was there, creating documents, filling out HUD forms, organizing the myriad of documents (one closing had 137 documents that we need 5 copies of for the closing. Lots of fun).

In the weirdest way organizing all of that stuff and keeping things straight appealed to the anal side of me that adores office supply stores. Organizational systems! Hurrah!

So the attorney asked me over the phone why I'm moving to DC and I said something about how I enjoyed health care law and wanted to learn more about policy as well and DC was a good place for that.

I need to come up with better answers for these things.

I forgot to say that I just really really really like DC and am not a big fan of Boston. Or something to indicate that I really really really want to be in DC and won't flake on them.

So she said that she didn't want to mislead me because they mostly do health care financing, working with hospitals and HUD, etc. She said it looked like from my resume that I had experience with that and I replied that I did. She asked if I enjoyed it and I said yes. So, thus, I have an interview.

Crappy part is, I have to fly to DC a week and a half before the Bar. And the tickets to National are $200 more than to Dulles, which means it will be kind of a pain. I'm waiting to hear back from my fututre roommate to see if I can stay with her and if she could get me to and from Dulles before I buy a ticket for sure.

An Hour And A Half Later: Well I don't know HOW I'm supposed to concentrate on Evidence now. I spent an hour going through all my Evidence notecards with the plan to then go over the Evidence questions I missed on the MBE. Instead, I hopped back on the computer and found that I have friends who love me who want me to stay with them in the DC area. Hurrah for old friends!

I'm also thinking, Do I want to do finance? And then I think, Shut up, Kelly, it's a job. You can love finance and pay down your loans. THEN rack up the loans again with the MPH and THEN get into policy - since that whole husband and kids thing doesn't really seem to be materializing anytime soon so the stay-at-home-mom vs. career conflict isn't really an issue at this point.

If the future roommate can't transport and/or house you when you're here, I probably can (definitely on the house; the transport would depend on time/day). And don't forget to look at BWI for flights too. Uber cheap.

Just out of curiosity. . .please tell me this firm's initials aren't "R" and "S."

No they're not. Do you have bad stories?

So, I had another friend email me and tell me to check BWI. What times of day are bad for you? :)

Kelly, you rock! I am so proud of you! All the firm wants to hear is that whatever kind of law they practice is "the" most interesting law practiced on the planet and how HUD closings were practically a party for you since you are an anal, organizational guru. Of course, I mean that in a nice way. I can't wait for you to go and WOW them and show them that confident you who posted the other day!

Yay! A job is a job. I didn't expect to be doing series fiction, but it's also children's fantasy, and I discovered as I found out more about the job (and eventually started it) that it's my dream job--great company, interesting things that I'm working on, lots to learn, and lots of room to grow. I'm sure you'll find the same thing if you get an offer and decide to accept it--it'll take you that much closer to what you really want to do.

No bad stories, just want to make sure you're not going to be working with a certain tool . . .

Re time: if it's before the 18th, any time will do as long as I've got about a day's notice. After the 18th, any time after 3 p.m.

Kelly: If times, etc. aren't working out for you - there is public transport between Dulles and the Metro system (which I've used - totally easy, bus to West Falls Church...and you're good) and apparently between BWI and Union Station (MARC train, which I haven't tried.)

Info here (for IAD):

And here (for BWI):

And oh yeah - CONGRATS on getting an interview!!

Re BWI: it's actually easier/cheaper to take the B2 metrobus from BWI to Greenbelt and then the Green Line into the city than it is to take the MARC train (MARC's "BWI Airport Station" isn't actually at BWI--you then still have to take a bus to get into the airport, and it's something like $7-10, whereas the B2 is $2.30).

Isn't there also a bus that leaves from Roslyn to go to Dulles? The Washington Flyer or something like that. There are signs for it at Dulles.

Just a shout out to the most helpful and supportive blogger group I've ever come across. You all are the greatest and I just love seeing all of the "hands across America" kind of love. It's heart warming. :)

I've taken a shuttle from Dulles to West Falls Church metro, it was about $8. I believe it was operated by Washington Flyer.
