New Apartment

Today I went over to my new place to have dinner with one of my future roommates and to check out my new digs. I like the apartment a lot. I am excited because:

- I get my own bathroom
- My closet is huge
- We have a washer and dryer
- The downstairs is basically my domain and is 5 degrees cooler than the rest of the apartment
- Which really doesn't matter all that much, except for the fact that I like to be cool when I go to sleep, because the place has CENTRAL AIR
- We have an actual back porch with a nice little table and chairs and an actual backyard AND a screen door (I love the South. I realize DC isn't exactly the South, but there's a screen door!)
- Not only do we have a backyard, but my roommates have already started little gardening endeavors and I am determined to put in some bulbs this fall
- The whole place feels homey

And the best part of the new apartment is someone I'm not going to share with you all just yet. We have a roommate we weren't exactly planning on and I am taking no end of delight from him. You all will have to wait until I move at the end of August and take some snapshots of him. But it will be worth it. Oh yes. It will be worth it.

I'm thinking it's a cat or a dog. But the house sounds awesome. I wanna live there! I miss being able to garden. The last place I lived that let me do that was at BYU; the landlady let me put in cherry tomatoes in one of the flower beds. I've been spoiled for store-bought cherry tomatoes ever since.

Never, never, never tell anyone from Maryland or anywhere further south than that that DC feels like "The South" to you. And be careful which DC-ers you let that drop in front of. They're damn tetchy about their regional situation here.

Oh, I realize it's not The South. But it's more South than Boston in a lot of ways. And a screen door! - it just makes me think of my times in Tennessee and Florida.

Stacy, it's not a cat or a dog. My roommate wouldn't tell me until I got down here and I didn't manage to guess.

A bird of some kind? A hamster, rat or gerbil? A ferret? A bunny? Anything in the "rodent" family? A gecko or a reptile?

A live-in maid or butler? A foreign exchange student?

Well, that's me done.
