I Am A Slave to Mass Media Marketing

Several weeks ago I bought some Oil of Olay body wash with shea butter, assuming it would smell like everything else with shea butter - kind of nutty. Instead it has this really overpowering perfumey smell that I was not expecting at all. So today I decided to get a different body wash when I stopped by the drugstore after the gym. I wanted something fruity because I'm all about fruity lately. I think it's my desire for summer. I'm not going to the extent of actually wearing the Hawaiian Tropic coconut sunscreen every day, but I'm gathering an arsenal of tropical delight around me. Friday, I bought Bed Head Control Freak shampoo and conditioner , which have kind of a tropical scent. On Saturday I got a new candle at Pier 1 that is Mango Tea and Citrus Cilantro blended. (I'm starting to feel that Yankee Candle has nothing on Pier 1 candles. I know, sacrilege! But Pier 1's candles have much more sophisticated scents, in my opinion).

So I'm looking for some fruity body wash and lo and behold I see the
Dove Cool Moisture body wash with the cucumbers on the front of the bottle. (Cucumbers signify refreshing, apparently). Immediately the commercial's theme song starts running through my head. "Fresh your body." I'm standing in the aisle of CVS, swaying a little to the music in my head. I may have done a hip shimmy to that last "Lalala la la."

Of course I bought it, all because of a good ad campaign. And also because I too want to look like Miss Piggy does, so natural without all the eyeshadow and hairspray. And also because it does smell good.

I'm eating ants on a log, which I don't think I've had since I was 10 or so. Does anyone else remember that snack fondly? Whenever I tell people what's in it, they always looked utterly grossed out. I think it's yummy. For the record, it's celery filled with peanut butter (the log), topped with strategically placed raisins (the ants).

When making the ants on a log, I had to throw out some old veggies and I had an excellent idea. Like the American mass consumer that I am, when I go to the grocery store I like to stock up. The problem is, I like to eat vegetables. By the time I get to something, I may be able to use part of it, but part of it is often on the way to going bad. Or it goes bad before I get the chance to finish it. So I think they need to make Veggies for the Single Girl (TM) or something like that. For those of us who will only eat one or two servings of a particular vegetable in a week, sell us that much vegetable. Half a head of romaine, one celery heart, two onions, etc. If someone else had thought of it, I might be offended by the implications, but since I thought of it, it's obviously brilliant. DLo, you'll help me get that trademark set up, yes?

OK, enough of this Trusts & Estates avoidance. Time to get to work.

Oh, 80 laps today. I opted out of the long set of 40 and instead did one set of 24 and one set of 16. It's not that I can't do the 40, but I always wind up with a slight headache for the rest of the day when I do that. Not enough oxygen getting to my brain for 20 minutes? I don't know. But today I did 80 laps and no headache. So I think I'll work myself up to the 40 laps - maybe in a month or so after I've been swimming regularly for a bit again. I also did butterfly today.

And, ok, is this showing off? Is this the male ego not being able to deal with the chubby girl doing butterfly? After I did a few laps of butterfly, this guy two lanes away decided to try it himself. It's wasn't pretty. Lots of uncoordinated arms and loud slapping of water.

Trader Joes and Whole Foods was made for the single girl. Imagine just buying a package of just four apples, or putting as much lettace as you want in a bag. I heart organic.

You must go to a different kind of Trader Joe's than I do. The one I go to has some random vegetables - sometimes squash, sometimes tomatoes, sometimes red potatoes - along with bagged lettuce. It's not very consistent with what it offers. And it still has the giant bags of 12 onions that I never use all of.

Whole Foods is a bit too pricey for me right now. Like I can get apples at Market Basket for 89 cents a pound. Apples range from $1.69-$2.29 a pound at Whole Foods.

I want Vegetables for the Single Girl (TM) at Market Basket, darn it!

the butterfly is my favorite stroke, partly because it's a great workout, and partly because it's hilarious watching other people try it out. if only they knew how ridiculous they look...

I would have loved to see the flappy boy in the pool. :)

I second the notion of smaller veggies made for one person. I know that we never get full use out of our stuff and most of it ends up as compost.

I have often wished for single allotments in vegetables. In bread as well. You can refrigerate or freeze it but it's kind of nasty.

Also, I use Happy body wash and I'm very .. well, happy with it. It's nice and fruity but not too heavy. Of course, I also use the perfume at times as well.

First and foremost you know I got your IP back.
Secondly, I most definitely agree that veggies should come in single servings- however I am pretty sure you can get those onions 1 at a time. SPLURGE!!!! Buy your onions one at a time.

And responding to a different post of yours- stay in Boston. It's where all the cool kids will be next year (well at least I'll be here).
