Regret

How do you get past regret? They say you should never look back. They say hindsight is always 20/20. But how do I move forward? How do I stop thinking "What if..." and "If only..." and "I wish I had never..."? I don't know and it's weighing me down. Heavily.

Jef, That is the best advice I have heard all day! I can also find those instances in my life, in fact, that is where I am right now. Kelly, things do get better and make more sense down the road. Thanks for sharing a small part of your life through your journal. You are a very sweet individual and I hope that God has "showers of blessings" for you this year.

You just have to concentrate on looking forward. Learn what you can from the mistakes you did/didn't make, apply that knowledge to your current and future endeavors. You can't do anything to change the past, you can only learn from it. Concentrate on the aspects of your life that you can change. Eventually, further down the line, the regret will go away.

Oy, that is one of the toughest questions ever. You just got to figure that it doesn't help at all to worry about past stuff, and just suck up any mistake as experience. They say successful people are the ones who are best at letting the past stay in the past. Just remember, tons of people have probably made the same mistakes as you have.

Thanks for your comments. I know that looking back does no good, but it's hard when I so heavily feel the ramifications of past choices that now feel capricious. Even though I know at the time that they weren't.

I just have to try to trust that things will work out and happened a particular way for a reason.
