Overboard

So I'm all for security, but it seems to me that banning ALL liquids and gels on flights is kind of extreme. I'm going to Boston tonight and was already kind of worried about the flight being delayed because of bad weather. Now it looks like my flight may be delayed because it's the last flight on the very day when the FAA decided to ban all liquids and gels on flights. I'm only one girl, and I know that I have to now repack my little carry-on roller and check it. Plus I'm leaving work an hour earlier than I was going to, just in case. Just in case the baggage check counters are backed up, just in case security is a madhouse, just in case it's pandemonium at Dulles.

I'm annoyed because I plan my packing so that I don't have to check a bag because it takes SOOO long after the flight to get the bag back. And there's always the chance of them losing the bag. I also have to ditch the hand lotion in my purse and I can't take a water bottle on the plane anymore.

At a time when they're allowing nail clippers and small scissors on the plane again, this seems a wee bit reactionary. I hate to say it, but there are always going to be sneaky ways for terrorists to do some damage. Just because they happened to use liquids this time, doesn't mean they'll do it next time, and it also doesn't mean they don't already have another plan up their sleeves. In reality, having gridlock at the airports and disrupting our lives is probably a lot of fun for them to watch.

I heard the delays at Dulles were 1 1/2 hrs this morning so good luck. I have agree with you that the terrorists will always think of a different method. Remember the shoe bomber? Who would have ever thought of putting explosives in shoes? Now I have to wear slip on shoes at the airport because of him. These people are determined and they will find a way even if the FAA says we need to go on planes naked.

"She just shrugged and tossed it. "It's better to feel safe. We thought it was going to be a lot worse." "

This is exactly the plan that Satan proposed, isn't it? "They'll all make it back safe, even if they have no agency." This is a clear example of disrupting our lives enough to take away freedom even if the terrorists don't actually hit a target.

Did you read all the way to the end of the article? The guy who just had a cancer removed from his lip and had to use an antibacterial lip balm, and they were telling him to throw it away? It probably cost him quite a bit of money, too.

I wouldn't "hate to say it" if I were you. Sure, they need to be careful, but they're not being careful, they're being selectively stupid. And causing way too much fuss over water bottles and makeup, that's for sure. I always take my toiletries and medicine in my carryon in case my luggage gets lost.

My belief is, you do what's sensible and reasonable, because, like prison, if somebody wants to make a weapon out of scotch tape, they will find a way. ANYTHING can be used as a weapon if the person doing it is clever enough. Are they going to ban scotch tape, too?

Plus, they're allowing exceptions for baby formula--you think it's not going to occur to the terrorists to conceal liquid explosives in some baby formula? You think they can't get ahold of a baby to make it plausible?

I also wonder why it took them this long to think of this--both the TSA and the terrorists. Personally, I know squat about explosives, but it would still occur to me to smuggle liquid explosives on board before it would to make a shoe bomb.

Well, personally I'd rather be inconvenienced a little bit than blown up. I'm sure they have reasons for banning what they are. Like perhaps that they haven't taken all of the suspects into custody yet.

as they say in New Hampshire "live free or die". i don't want to see all my freedoms go up in terrorist-fear fueled smoke.
