Back Downtown

Today I started work in the District again and it feels really good. I think there's just something about getting on a train and walking a few blocks on busy city streets that make me feel like I'm going to work for real. Driving just stresses me out and being out in the suburbs makes me feel removed from any sort of action. There was even a saxophone player playing Christmas carols when I stepped out of the Metro station this morning. As much as I loved being in Tennessee last weekend and as much as I want to have my own house with my own garden and my own trees someday, there's a bit of me that loves the rush of a city too.

I miss it! And I got tired of driving after about a month. It's nice to have a car when you need it, not nice to have to drive it all the time. And I know exactly what you mean about feeling removed from the action. I have no idea what goes on in downtown Seattle, because I'm out in the suburbs all day--so I've been here over 6 months and have nothing to do with the community. I just love walking down a city street and looking at what the street vendors are selling and going to the park and being a part of that *energy*.

P.S. If you come round to my LJ lately, make sure to log in if you want to comment. I had a bit of a spammer attack yesterday and the day before, only from real people, so I had to go no-anonymous for a while.
