Old Navy Discriminates Against the Well-Endowed

I realize that I have a figure, but I'm not HUGE. What do the D's and the DD's do?

I stopped at Old Navy today while I was out running errands in the hopes of finding a couple of cute tops to take to California. I'm tired of my utilitarian T-shirt wardrobe, and plus most of those T-shirts are too big and baggy now. Sure, they're comfy, but they look like poop.

After trying on no less than 8 tops at Old Navy and feeling dissatisfied with every single one, I realized it was probably a lost cause. Every top fit okay except for doing that weird puckering over my boobs, indicating that there was not enough fabric to fit correctly over my chest. In fact there was even a long sweater with a tie around the waist that fit over my hips (which is quite an achievement and really why I never wear anything tunic-length), but the buttons across my chest were straining. Apparently Old Navy is good for the A-cup set, but not good for me. And I swear, I am not THAT big.

Frankly, I feel sorry for the girl who has my size hips, with A-cups sitting on top. She must look out of balance.

On the positive side of shopping, I am now in the smallest size at Lane Bryant in my pants (I haven't been able to wear their shirts for some time). I know that I'm dumb, but I almost burst into tears in the dressing room as I pulled up and zipped the cute flared jeans in the smallest size they offer. At one point in time I was 4 sizes larger. I wasn't really expecting to have dropped a size already, I just noticed this weekend that the jeans I bought 2 months ago look kind of odd on me now, with lots of extra fabric in the lower torso region and major gapping around my waist. So I thought I'd try on the next size down just for kicks.

The only downside is I have a feeling that my super-cute flared, cuffed black pants that made my butt look great no longer fit. I haven't tried them on, but I tried on a similar pair today at LB in the same size and they were way too big. Sadness.

And I'm in between sizes in the pants at Old Navy so maybe after I lose a little bit more, I'll be able to wear the smaller size there and look decent. Buying bottoms is the bane of my existence, and was even when I was a size 7.

On another topic entirely, I'm kind of sad that my site meter has gone way down. I figured it would after all the Bar people finished up and took off for various and sundry vacation locales. Hopefully they'll start reading again. Popularity means everything to me.

Hey there.

Maybe it's that Old Navy sees itself as somehow catering to a young teen crowd? Though that doesn't really explain their maternity line.

I've noticed the problem you mention in their tops (though I'm sure I'm a larger size than you). The wierd thing is, tops from Gap don't seem to have that problem for me. Are women who shop at Gap supposed to have breasts while those at Old Navy are flat?

Congrats on almost being out of Lane Bryant and going down 4 sizes. That's very very wonderful, especially when one considers all the stress you've dealt with getting ready for your exam. Pretty amazing there woman.

As to cute pants no longer fitting, I hear ya. My favorite jeans are now still wearable, but are too big to do the flattering thing they used to do to my backside. But you can console yourself by thinking about how many different styles and brands of pants are out there now that you're so much smaller. You'll just need to go and find the new perfect pair.

Well, you do need to be a hipless 12 year old to fit into Old Navy, especially the pants with thier gappage.

However, I am a very well-endowed woman on top, and thier t-shirts fit me well. In fact, thier sizing is so weird that I often find I am fitting into a small or medium, which makes me wonder what C's or B's or smaller wear.

Button down shirts though are in a league of thier own and if you are like me, with a waist and 'well-endowment'on top, they never quite fit without gappage, no matter where you buy them from (unless you go for the potato sack look).

I think Old Navy also discriminates against those well endowed on the lower half too. I have tried on every cut of pants there I could find only to not have a single one fit over my butt without causing some MAJOR gappage at the back. However, my lack of endowment up top makes their shirts fit fine.

On a positive note, most of the pants at Old Navy are made of that "stretch" material, and they really do stretch! So even if the smaller size is a little too snug, you'll find after wearing it for as little as an hour it will have stretched to a comfortable size.

As for the tops, I'm a C, borderline D. And I pretty much have to resort to wearing a tank top under everything and just leave the top button undone.

Hence another reason why I really dislike shopping. If you are anything above a C cup in the current fashions, you have all sorts of trouble finding shirts to fit. Imagine being bigger than that and you see my dilemma and the one I've had since 7th grade.

*sigh*

Let me just offer a HUGE GOOD FOR YOU! I am excited for you that you are dropping sizes...that's got to make shopping a little more fun, right? And sorry, but speaking as the hugely over weight b-cup...I can't feel too sorry for you...there is something to be said for proportion!
